He was the second of three children, and was first named Michael, after his father. Both changed their names to Martin when the boy was still young.

Sorry I missed the name part... since no one else answered they were:

Martin Luther King was the second child, but the first son born to Reverend Martin Luther King, Sr., and Alberta Williams King. King's siblings included Christine King Farris and the late Reverend Alfred Daniels Williams King.

The problem with Christianity is the easily exploitable nature of the system. First, it can be twisted to say whatever we want it to; whether that's justification for stoning homosexuals, disobedient children, women who were raped and didn't cry out, or for everyone being brothers and sisters. Second, it can be used to control the way other people think. While Martin Luther King Jr. exploited people for their own benefit, people like Jim Jones did not. So, like any other tool, Christianity is as evil as it is used. The difference is that unlike most tools, Christianity has more potential for harm than good. We don't need the god belief aspect to unite people as brothers and sisters. We do however need the god belief aspect to convince people to do horrible things to each other.

Of course I was religious. I grew up in the church. My father is a preacher, my grandfather was a preacher, my great-grandfather was a preacher, my only brother is a preacher, my daddy's brother is a preacher. So I didn't have much choice.

Other children born to the Kings were Christine King Farris and the late Reverend Alfred Daniel Williams King. Martin Luther King's maternal grandparents were the Reverend Adam Daniel Williams, second pastor of Ebenezer Baptist, and Jenny Parks Williams. His paternal grandparents, James Albert and Delia King, were sharecroppers on a farm in Stockbridge, Georgia.
