I grew up on Long Island, so I believe I know the area. The woods there have oak trees and pussywillows and maple trees. Then there are the robins, bluebirds, fireflies and English sparrows. Grey squirrels, rabbits and skunks are still fairly plentiful; the waters have trout, polliwogs in the spring and beautiful snapping turtles. There are lots of beautiful rocky beaches and colorful leaves one can see in the autumn,
many lakes, granite boulders and good flat rocks for skipping. But the Northeast has three things in greater number than anywhere else in the country--people who read a great deal, publishing corporations and theaters where plays can be heard.
