Surgery? When I broke mine it healed in about 8 weeks. I've never heard of anyone having to have surgery for it. What happened and what complications did you have that surgery is in order? Are the docs SURE that's what is causing the problem? Have you gotten a 2nd opinion?

I've never heard of surgery for a broken tailbone. Is there a non-union in the saccrum or the coccyx? I would imagine that if there is a non-union (un-healing fracture) at the coccyx(lowest portion) of the tailbone that they would just surgically remove it.(Very low risk procedure)If the old fracture is in the saccrum this would be much more difficult and would require hardware (Stainless steel or titanium screws and plates) and possibly some bone or coral to speed the healing process. I can't imagine how you have lived like this for so long-best of luck in getting it fixed!

I have consulted orthopedic doctors in the past for my patients with non-healing coccyx fractures and all they recommended was actually removing the bone. Good luck.
