No, and No. They weren't created in vain, nor will the be used. (Knock on wood.)

They are serving their purpose right now, as we speak. They are acting as deterrents from any extreme acts of violence, especially national. Imagine, for instance, that Saddam Hussein had declared war on the US, on behalf of Iraq. He would have been able to do a lot of preemptive damage, but then..... BOOOOOOM! Iraq is a crater, but only after half of D.C. is destroyed. Then, who knows? N. Korea might sense weakness, and send a nuke our way. All because an entire country declared war.

Say what you want about terrorism OR the war on terror. Just over 2000 died, in the most massive act of terrorism committed. And regardless of the death toll in Iraq, it's much better than it would have been if the war was open. Face it- life could be a lot worse for everybody. Nukes are actively preventing countries from declaring war, and that is limiting the combatants, thus preventing more deaths.

Not to mention, a lot (the majority?) of nukes were made during the Cold War. Since both countries had unimagineable nuclear firepower, both were unwilling to fight the war. Thus, the two superpowers of the time were spared from any bloodshed.

You had better be glad that cash was all
they cost. Do you have any clue what
nuclear weapons are? A nuclear bomb has
the capacity to kill everyone in an entire
country and render the land and all things
as useless for generations. The nuclear
warheads we now have do not just kill and
that's it--No, they sterilize and cause radiation that will continue for many years.
We have had the hydrogen bomb for
many years. This is a bomb that sets off
a chain nuclear reaction that surrounds
and totally evaporates every living thing
on the earth. What country do you suppose has the most nuclear weaponry?
you guess it. Does that make us stronger?
No, that just makes us more deadly?
And we have killed almost everyone in
Iraq because our government just 'thought"
they had nuclear capabilities. We are now heading down the slippery slope to accuse
Iran of their secret "weapons of mass
destruction" OR nuclear weapons. If
America goes down the same road as
we have in Iraq--there will be no turning
back to peace again.

They could be used someday...kinda like the followers of Jim Jones used the Kool-Aide. The world could pull out the stops on nuclear weapons, have a humdinger of a play day and then, not be around to enjoy the affects and after affects.
I'd prefer we find a way to neutralize those we have, for the earth's sake, but I'm not prepared to live in a world dominated by some other culture/country/government who retains such a threat after we neutralize our own. So, a bit of a dilemma, hey.

Sooner or later..some little CS country, like Iran, or Korea etc. will lose their cool and not be intimidated by the world, and figure what have we got to lose, and there it goes. The world as we know it will cease to exist. I don't think it will happen anytime real soon due to the fact there will be a total destruction of just about all atomic powers, if you will. In my way of thinking, a larger nuclear power such as China might convince a smaller power to "go for it, and show the world you're not afraid of them" Time alone will tell, and God forbid it ever comes to that.

Eventually they will all be used. Some fruitcake fanatic, will push a button and launch one, which will call for a retaliatory strike, which will be followed by a preemptive strike, until everyone is shooting off the nuclear weapons, and no one really knows what happened. By then it will be to late. To see what happened, read On The Beach, by Neville Shute. It's dated, back in the sixties, but the premise is still good.

They will definitely be used and it is only a matter of time. One don't just make a dress and leave it in the closet but wears it and show it off to the people.

Just like nuclear weapons, these people spent so much money, effort and time on them, don't we all think they would want to 'test' them and in a way, to show off what they are capable of.

Do not believe a word if they say the weapons are for defences. That's lies to the kids. Till that day come, I would cherish what I have now.

I think only use of nuclear weapon is to kill unarmed peaceful civilian including women and children. I think there is no chance of using piled atom bombs. World environment has been completely changed. There is only one Super Power. Chances of a world war are remote as people are more sensible. A new element of security risk 'terrorism' is worrying politicians. People of the world want to live in peace and prosper.

the possibility of being nuked is a useful motivator to stay low. If there have been no nukes, then any u . s . a . could desire to do something, which might create international chaos and devastation. No, it shouldn't ensue every time quickly, and that i do no longer think of it extremely is going to. particular, they're nasty weapons, yet my god, they're great at combating huge wars. save the nukes for an alien invasion.

God gave us the intelligence that we have.
it's up to us to decide which way to apply it in this lifetime.
it's not the people or country that made the nuclear weapons; so it's not in vain.---think of the thousands of jobs and careers created and supported for families of people whom God has blessed with the intelligence to create such a massive structure. U know what i mean?
think outside the box.
im sure lots of the men and women who built them have passed on by now..think about how their families have survived because of them----and the structure they made hasnt even been used yet.
in a nutshell, i believe God gives us the resources and leaves it up to us as to what we do with it.

I believe we use nuclear weapons more as a deterrent than a defense. We all know their are some real crazys out there, thats why we try to keep them away from these 3rd. world lunatics. The present nuclear powers are well aware of the dangers involved and would hesitate to use them, I HOPE!
