When I was nine my mother told me and showed me how to use feminine products. I didn't start until I was 14, but I was prepared.

I think I was about 10 when a doctor came to our school to do some routine check ups ( private school, long story) and he asked if I had had my periods yet. He was quite amused at my indignation when I answered that I've known how to use a period at the end of my sentences since I was 5 and he told me to ask my parents.
I asked my dad when he picked me up from school and he almost ran over somebody (my parents are the conservative types) and told me to ask my mom. My mom was absolutely mortified when I came running asking very loudly what periods were while she had guests. She told me to ask her later.
I just grew tired of the whole thing and went to sleep....

My parents were the type who didn't explain anything to me. Anything I learned in grammar school and high school was via books so at least it wasn't a shock to me when it started. When I have kids, I will definately not be the same as my parents. When I was in 6th grade there was actually a time where they separated the girls from the boys, and explained stuff so this was the only official in person education I had.

I was about 9 or 10.
That was in the 1970's. I told my own girls when they were about 4 or 5 as just being a natural part of their bodies and they are fine with it. (My oldest is 15 and my youngest is 9).

When I was ten or eleven I think I was formally told about it by my mom but I knew what it was before then.
