Sometimes the body just needs a little helping hand in concieving and implanting an embryo. The medication that he's prescribed is fine and well reccomened to couples who find it difficult to concieve. He porbably wants to see if this little helping hand will help before dragging you through all the testing procedures, which can be very stressful and can sometimes reveal somethings that you never want to hear. Take it easy, chill, use the medication he's prescribed and folic acid. Take them early on in the day and forget about it. Take a little exercise and much on apples, bannanas, and oragnes throughout the day. Have a relaxing bath, even if its just a 20 minute one everyday and unwind. Go to bed 30 minutes early have a fun, healthy sex life with your partner at night. Go to the toilet before you start, this way once you have both peaked, you can lay down in each others arms and snuggle up for the night. No wiping or anything straight away, just cosy up and fall asleep.
Should 3 - 4 months passed and you want to tkae further tests, re visit your doctor. Remeber though, he is a trained doctor has had to go through med school and graduate to be what he is, so take his advice.

Ask your doctor to undergo other testing. Partner should have a sperm count and you need to have blood tests. He should be sending you for one called a Day 21 Progesterone test. This records the level of progesterone in your system during ovulation. They choose Day 21 as most people should have ovulated by then. Another way to check is to chart your body temp. Get a digital (easier to read) ovulation thermometer and follow the pack directions to chart you BBT (Basal Body Temp). They can also do more involved tests where they check your inside either via an internal ultrasound or a HSG (Hysterosalpingogram). A HSG is where they insert a catheter into your uterus and inject dye to see if your tubes are not blocked. Not too painful but also not very comfortable.
Clomid increases ovulation. So it's possible that this may work for you. It's up to you to try the Clomid and Provera or do some less invasive ways to check out whats going on. Clomid won't work if you have tubal blockages for instance as the eggs can't get through anyway. Talk to your doc and ask him what else to do.
If you think Clomid then I've heard a lot of people recommend taking it at night to lessen the side effects. I was two weeks short of having to start Clomid and the month following my HSG when I fell pregnant. (I had a blockage and the HSG cleared it). They do say that your chances of falling preggers increase after a HSG but I suppose that could be if a blockage was moved during the procedure. Good luck

It is completely irresponsible of your doctor to just give you some clomid and say "go for it". Without understanding why you've been unable to conceive you could end up with OHSS (ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome) or a multiple gestation pregnancy. Clomid is only for women who are not ovulating on their own. Run, don't walk, to a specialist. Especially if it's been two years. I saw an RE (reproductive endocrinologist) who got me pregnant through in vitro. I wasted 8 months with my ob/gyn doing clomid and artificial inseminations and I wish I would've known to move on to an RE sooner. A good start for you is to read "Taking Charge of Your Fertility". It will teach you a ton about how your body works each month and clues about what might not be working right.

Im not in your shoes hun but I did have two friends who went on Clomid and fell pregnant pronto so as far as Ive heard it is a very successful way of treating fertility problems. You have probably had trouble conceiving because of your irregular periods...its always going to be harder without a normal 28 day cycle to predict when its the right time to conceive because its harder to know when we ovulate. I reakon thats probably why your Doctor was so confident to put you on clomid and provera because he probably concluded that it was just down to irregular periods other than something else or Im sure he wld have had ordered tests for you. Whatever you decide to do...GOODLUCK x

You should see a fertility specialist. Most often gyn's are not throrough enough with their test. It sounds like you have irregular periods and you shoud figure out why before starting clomid and wasting time with something that might not even be effective. Also, you should be properly monitored while on clomid or else it won't be effective either. WHile waiting to find a fertility specialist, try tracking your basal body temperature, checking your cervical mucus and doing ovulation predictor test. If you are ovulating then you don't need clomid. Best of luck. Visit babyhopes.com

Based on my experience, the doctor should first do blood tests to determine what is going on. Then the doctor can give you options once he or she knows what is wrong. I took clomid and was tested each month after ovulation to test my progesterone level (mine was normal, but low). The doctor needs to see if the drug is working or not. The clomid didn't work for me for 2 months so the doctor switched me to a different drug for the 3rd month that did work to raise my level and I got pregnant. Did you go to a fertility clinic? If not, I would suggest going to a fertility clinic. If so, I would switch doctors. Good luck.

Hi I'm very surprised that your Dr didn't run any tests on you and your partner. How can he know what the problem is and like others have said if your tubes are blocked it would make no difference if you took the clomid. the same goes if its to do with your partners sperm.
I would go back and ask for blood tests and a scan to check for these and for your partner to have sperm tested as well.
Also when you on clomid you need to be monitored with a scan and blood tests as you can over simulate your ovaries which can be dangerous.
I've been on clomid but I had test done before and during its a power full drug and shouldn't be taken unless your monitered while on it.
PLEASE GO BACK AND ASK FOR TESTS BEFORE YOU TAKE THEM.
It doesn't allways work it didn't for me, hopefully it will for you take care

go back and see your doctoe before starting the medications. Investigations are usually under taken before any fertility medications are used. I would have though your doctor would have sent you for an ultrasound, blood tests, smear and done a semen analysis on your husband before offering any medications at all. Ideally you should get checked for any blockages in your tubes as this could also be a possible problem. Good luck and dont give up!

Hey Jessica,
I know what you must be going through because I have been through it too. My advice would be not to stress about it and live a healthy lifestyle. Many times I think we stress so much and rush to doctors who prescribe pill after pill making it harder and harder to conceive. It was only when i stopped worrying and did away with the pills and started to concentrate on eating healthy and occupying myself with things that kept my mind off falling pregnant did I conceive. I have friends who had tried so many things to fall pregnant and gave up and no sooner had they given up and taken their minds off 'trying to conceive' did they actually conceive. So don't stress and you'll see that it will happen in its own time.

Clomid is one of the first options most infertile couples try. If you aren't ovulating - it certainly can do the trick! ivillage has some great boards fulls of women that are very knowledgeable...you might look for a clomid board online - they will be most helpful!
