No. Art or art history whichever you are referrring are very low value departments in most colleges. In fact, I would guess pure art departments are very specialized (e.g. Rhode Island School of Design) and hence professors are in low demand. These departments do not generate sufficient income from students or research. They are probably considered loss leaders. You would probably make more money as an artist if you had any talent (commercial or non-commercial).

Not particularily.

YES, a college professor can make a large amount of cash, but (s)he will generally have to work his or her tail off, and many colleges / universities no longer offer "tenure" as it used to be known. Add to that the politics you'll have to deal with, for every dollar you receive, you'll probably have to spend 75+ cents to maintain a lifestyle that you would be expected to for the position (staff parties, education related trips, lectures, etc).
