I'm doing a project for a class where we are to create a "metaphor" for geologic time. It can take any form, from an artpiece to a poster, etc... It is required that we properly scale the timeline. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what I should do for the project. The more creative, the better! Thank you!

I just seen it compared to a 46 year old woman by my geology professor
First seven years : unaccountted for
42 years old: life appears on land
45 years old: flowering plants
8 months ago: dino's died out
Last week; Human ancestors evolved
yesterday; Modern Humans evolved
Last Hour; Discovered agriculture an settled down
1 minute ago: the Industrial Revolution took place

You could elaborate on this for the different periods an epochs such when she is her teens, 20's etc or even make the woman older and divide the time scale accordingly
I have also seen it compared to a roll of toilet paper or paper towel where humans apper only on a small section of the last sheet.

If you pick something reasonable, like a foot for the time since man probably walked upright, then a calculation of the distance time ratio to the time the earth was solid, you end up with something ridiculously long - like miles and miles. So make a little tiny mark - 0.1 inch for man and calculate how many thousand feet of string for the time line and run it up and down the hallways (or around the loop if your school is built that way) taping it above lockers. With little signs for Cambrian, Precambrian and all the others.
