Hi I'm looking for the best area in Taipei to shop for fabrics and also tea shops. Any info is appreciated! Thanks. Also, if someone knows where to get the best free street map (4 years ago I used to get one at the airport but I forgot to get one this time. It had every name and section of each road) of Taipei please let me know. Its been a while since I've been here and I forgot a lot!

Hi,
Excellent Free Street maps available at the Tourist Info Counter (TIC)at the TTIA and at the various counters around the city,. There is also a TIC at the Taipei Main Station.

If you are abroad, then most of the ROC Trade offices have a tourism section and Maps are also available there.

Fabric Wholesale is available in the Ta Cheng Street and Nanking West Road area behind the Taipei Main Station.
It is also close to fashion Accessories street.

For a good variety of all qualities of tea you can check out the Ten Ren Tea Group:Other Tea info on the left panel at site below:

When you land at the airport, at the terminal information they have a number of maps in various languages. Also, at the MRT stations are the city maps of the MRT. At downtown airport, I also picked up a bus map, showing all the bus stops and bus numbers which stop there. The hotels also have maps, but usually don't cover the whole area. I still have a couple of the maps you write about. Even has house numbers at each intersection.

Tea shops: Any Ten Ren store sells pretty good tea in a tin. Otherwise, you may have to go to a place like Chiou Fen (hope I got the name right) on the north shore.

Fabric/clothing: There is a large area (about 4 city blocks) like a clothing market just North of the Sung Shan railroad station on east side of town. They usually roll out the racks in the evening.
