Let's look at each part of your question.
"Should". Should implies that there's an option. Assuming there is a God (I'll get to that next), he is both protected and loving to all. What this means is, he'll take anyone and everyone in if he chooses, and he does. So the question is, "WILL God...".
"God". Does God exist? If so, then read above. If not, then this question is mute.
"be protected". Does that mean he's vulnerable? If God exists, he can do anything, including decide who gets into Heaven. If God doesn't want Bush in heaven, God won't let him go there. No one needs to protect God.
"from Bush". What is wrong about Bush? I'm guessing you're a democrat. Chances are, because of what I'm about to type, I won't get the 10 points. Oh well. Democrats, unlike Republicans, tend to think about reputation more than anything. Ask a democrat why we shouldn't have gone to war and they'll say one of three things:
1) Iraq was fine.
2) There was no reason.
3) We shouldn't have gotten involved.
Democrats probably knew in 2k1 that going into Iraq wasn't going to be popular with countries such as France and England. They also assumed that Saddam Hussein didn't have WOMDs. WOMD is a disputable term, and Democrats and Republicans have different views on what it means. Democrats don't think that 100,000 pounds of nerve agents is a WOMD, but republicans do. Since a Republican was in office at that time, it was considered a WOMD. Not to mention the dictator in Iraq was a complete loony.
The choice wasn't popluar, but if you'll remember, France (or England, I forget which) had their subway system bombed and hundreds killed/injured...not to mention the economic downfall from it. The US Military has recovered countless documents and prevented a lot of terrorist attacks that would've happened on US soil. I'd rather fight the war in Iraq then in my back yard.
So no, God does not need to be protected from Bush.

I think God can handle himself against everyone. Bush is a child of God just like all of us. If we are Christians, we should not judge Bush or anyone else. Love one another. Amen.
