Well it sounds like you're asking have you done something for the attention. I think everyone wants to be acknowledged for their contributions, and especially so when you step WAY out there and do something--something you don't HAVE to do, but something you want to do because you want to make a contribution.
I think if it weren't for the people who "step out there" and do that little extra, or that ALOT extra, there wouldn't be charities, there wouldn't be sport coaches (they volunteer, nobody pays them) and there just wouldn't be those extra perks that make society a GOOD place to be.
So if people DO remember your name, that's a good thing. You DESERVE to be remembered.
People who do bad things are hurting badly and some just totally insane, and they do these things for attention. They are remembered only for the grief and pain and misery they bestowed on people, nothing more.
But if you set out to do something just for the glory and have no real interest in the cause, then you are just a "user" and a hypocrite, and you take away from the good that good people do, by doing something that selfish for no reason but to get yourself recognition.
I think it's terrible when people do NOT acknowledge someone's contribution. They have EARNED the applaud. The greater the cause, the more selfless too, the more people should "remember" that person.
I like to think of it as acknowledgement however. And sadly, not everyone appreciates the contributions that these people make, especially some of those who benefit from it. That's pretty low class to me.

NO. I'm not THAT attention starved.
Except maybe in a job interview or something of importance, I guess. Give them a great interview and pray they remember me.

Yes. My Geometry teacher could never remember my name, so I started wearing a post-it with "Susie" (my name) on it. After that he never forgot!
