Does it have to be in a particular subject? If not, how about alternative medicine, the history of dental hygiene, or whether listening to Mozart really makes your baby smarter?

I wrote my research paper my junior year of high school on human sacrifice practices and rituals in Celtic cultures before the advent of Christianity. I've also done Beowulf and its representation of Nordic culture, hate crimes, and other things. :) I just pick a topic that fascinates me, and I roll from there - I figure my interest will shine through no matter what the topic is. Oh, and my favorite research papers ever were on William S. Burroughs (his life was WILD) and sadomasochism and its connections with body piercing, tattooing, scarification, and rites of passage in global cultures. :) They were separate, of course.

You could write about almost everything... For example, if you want to write about shoes, then you could research how people make shoes and such....... for example, back in the days, Chinese people made their feet smaller so they could fit in the shoes..... Stuff like that......
