Yes, if there is a noise ordinance on the books in that area, and if someone calls the police, and if the police get there in time to hear the stereo. It is like the barking of a dog, its hard to prove, but it is against the law in some areas.

For the most part the answer is yes because if you are driving with the radio to loud to hear car horns or emergency sirens you can be charged with careless driving and if you cause an accident you can face multiple charges.

It's annoying but shouldn't be illegal unless it seriously threatens the well being of other people. I really don't think this qualifies. Sirens are made to be loud enough to cut over any radio.

It is illegal. Most of the time it falls under a noise ordinance. But you do bring up some mighty good points. I think there should be something done about that.

First, it is rude. Nobody wants to listen to the crap usually being played.
Second, it is a noise or traffic violation in many areas.
Third, prolonged exposure to noise over 80 decibels has been shown to cause hearing loss.

Makes sense, but that is an individual choice. Let them get into trouble with a cop because they are too busy listening to SUPER LOUD music.

Almost every city in the St. Louis Metro area has an ordinance prohibiting it.

It is in Manhattan. You can get pulled over and ticketed for exceeding a certain noise level. I certainly agree with that law.

In some municipalities it is. The penalty could be to make them listen to Barney for an hour.
