Only by a tiny bit. There are almost as many black people. The north end is black, the south side is mostly Hispanic (mostly Puerto Rican). Most of my family is from Hartford but back in the days when it was a total mix. My grandparents and their parents lived in an Italian neighborhood. My other grandparents lived in the North End by Keney Park when it was a mix of European immigrants, Jews and Irish. It's where my mom grew up in the 50s. They left in the early 60s because everyone else in the neighborhood was moving out ('white flight') and crime was on the rise. It's a black neighborhood now.

Pretty much the entire city is poor and unsafe. Even the downtown area isn't that safe at night because it's pretty desolate.
