What is the reason behind the Star Wars movies coming out in wierd order (IV, V, VI, I, II, III), and why was there a big gap of time when they stopped being made after Episode VI?

Lucas originally came up with something called "The Journal of the Whills", which was a rough version of the saga on paper. After realizing the story needed to be split, he decided to make 4-6 first because they contained more action and he felt they would be more successful. If you notice, 1-3 aren't as action oriented; they're more like the setup. If you mean a gap as in why Ep 1 wasn't made until 1999, it's because Lucas wanted to wait until CGI technology was advanced enough to make the newer films. Frankly, I think the newer films fail because too much emphasis was placed on the technical aspects, rather than just good movie making.

First because Lucas figure episodes 4-6 would sell better so he made them first also remember there was a 20 year gap between the makeing of episode 4 and 1. Now remember how episode three ended, the jedi are all but extinct, the galaxy is under the rule of the empire, its a terrable way to leave a series for almost 20 years. And in 1977 they didn't have the technology to make episodes 1-3, think about it an entire army of droids marching on an army of gungans, they just couldn't do that with still animation.

Originally, Lucas was looking for a movie that would sell that best and help to revolutionize the movie industry. Out of this need came A New Hope. Consequently afterwards, it was one of the best selling movies ever made, and still holds a box office record. Think about it. Would it be easier to continue a story or try and start over from the beginning once you've already made a movie? Its more consistent to make sequels that follow the story and then to try and go back and start at the beginning. The reason that a gap existed was largely because Lucas was funding the majority of the movie budgets himself. Additionally, it is better marketing to wait for a new generation of fans, plus it drives demand.

6 Movies total but they go in order like this: Star Wars 4, Star Wars 5, Star Wars 6, THEN Star Wars 1, Star Wars 2, Star Wars 3. Kinda weird and confusing!!

George Lucas had the idea in mind for the Star Wars saga, it just happened that episodes 4, 5, and 6 were developed easier and faster and so those came first. After directing Star Wars (episode IV), Lucas decided he was never going to direct again and left the Star Wars saga alone, until he changed his mind 20 years later.

IV was actually the first book written, followd by V and VI. After than he went back and wrote the other books as prequals. He actually ahdn't intended to wrint moe rthan just the first book, but, well...it went over so well that he jsut kept going. As for the time gap between VI and I who knows. Could have been waiting for the time to make the movies, with al the other projects he was involved in he might not have had to opportunity goet them on film before then.

Out of all the movies, I think the best one was where Mr. Spock died saving the Enterprise from Farrakhan, then the robot went berserk while Dr. Smith complained about his back being "a disaster area". Then they were all assimilated by the Borg, a Swedish rock group.

i think it was all marketing...When they realized the huge succes of Star Wars they decided to do the prequel to get money. It was not possible to make star wars 4 because all the actors were already too old. Any way the first of the new star wars films was so boring that i dont want to see any more

George Lucas (The Writer, Producer, and Director of Star Wars) didn't know he was going to have a hit movie series. Only so and so years later did he realize he wanted to make a prequel to them

cause Lucas saw more profit in the first 3 (4-6) then 1-3 and easier to make.
