Teaching ppl to be sensitive to others is a healthy thing.
Using terminology that is of a negative tone is detrimental. For example, I can't stand to hear the phrase, "runs like a girl." unless it is actually about someone running I guess. But most of the time it is referring to running away like a coward. That always ticks me off when I believe women have more courage than men when it comes for standing up and fighting for what we believe in at all cost.
With all that said though, it can be taken to the extreme. And I have no clue what has happen to the phrase, "sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me."
That teaches us to let negative things bounce off us and that we choose to let somebody's elses opinion of us hurt us or not. We seem to have lost that mentality.

I don't know a thing about Borat, but I believe that 'political correctness' takes away the right to freedom of speech.

there's no such thing as political correctness. language always changes and i really don't see anything wrong with calling people what they would like to be called.
we don't call asia the orient anymore either...
wait a sec... i just realized that both you and yo it's me misunderstood borat. i'll be darned. he isn't trying to get rid of political correctness, he's spreading it. let me explain, the people he interviews think he is an innocent, foreign (albeit weird) man and some of them share their opinions with him. a lot of those opinions were chosen for the film because they were so spectacularly politically incorrect... like the guy at the rodeo. now, do you think this guy is more likely to go on sharing his opinions now that he's seen that some of the rubes he thinks he's "safe" with are making movies that make him look like a redneck?
or, will he be more likely to do what the frat boys did and try to claim they were drunk and didn't know what they were saying? or even better try to sue him even though he got them to sign releases?
i sincerely don't understand how you think borat is going to make us more politically incorrect. the only reason that film was made was because he views it as a social experiment. he went to cambridge, this is a way to trick us into sharing our xenophobic views. a jewish man went hunting anti-semites and he found 'em in spades for the explicit purpose of showing us how racist we are. this film is a poem to political correctness.

Absolutely, that is why it was so funny. I hate political correctness. Fortunately, people who know me personally know that I am not PC and that unless they are willing to take me on (intellectually or physically), they will just have to put up with it (and that does not mean I am a bigot, I agree that all Americans should treat each other with respect and respect our individuality, but some of the PC stuff is crazy).
