Noah n.... how is it a dumb question?? and secondly just because I am a girl does mean I don't know anything about hockey.. I am not a huge hockey fan but everyone in my family is and hockey is on t.v almost every night at my house everytime either toronto plays (because my boyfriend is a HUGE TML fan) and if Montreal canadians is on (my dad is a huge HABS fan) and if Buffalo is playing ( my mom and uncle are HUGE Sabres fans) and if the flyers are playing my two brothers are watching it so I have grown up around hockey so I am not dumb about hockey I just don't follow every team so I didn't know the real reason why they changed names..

Dumb questions like this is why women are not respected when it comes to hockey or sports in general.

I can't believe so many people welcome the change and the logo... okay, maybe the name change but come on the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim sound so much better than the Anaheim Ducks... and don't even get me started on that waste of time known as the new logo... I've never felt the old logo was cartoonish at all (except for the Disney name attached). This new logo looks like a cheap minor league inspired design. Yes, I'm bitter and no way in the world am I abandoning my eggplant sweater in favor of a new champagne duck foot when I go to the Pond next season.

Mighty Ducks Now

FYI when Disney sold the team, they sold the name Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. So copyright had nothing to do with it. Like another guy said earlier, the new owners simply wanted to change it, I was actually surveyed outside of the then Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim, now the Honda Center, and the fans here in southern Cal liked the Ducks mascot so much that they only decided to drop the "mighty". Ironically, they're mightier than ever this season.

The original team name was Mighty Ducks of Anaheim... but now that Disney doesn't own them anymore, the "Mighty" part was dropped. Actually, the new owners would have changed the name altogether, but "Ducks" was popular with the fans.

Because Disney no longer owns them and the new ownership wants the team to be associated with the city they are in hence...Anaheim Ducks instead of Mighty Ducks.

disney no longer owns them & they have a copyright on the Mighty Ducks.

and hey Hartley006 - no offense? man, if you are an avid fan, you ain't watching. Penguins? what's their point total & the Ducks? also, Ducks have 7 players over 30 points. Pens? 5 guys, and 2 of them better be leading the league.

Because mighty ducks sounded like a kidish name. I'm a Red Wings fan and we're doing better than the maple leafs

The Mighty Ducks came from a disney movie and the new owner wanted to get rid of it

Yes, its got to do with Disney selling the team and the new owner wanting the team to no longer be associated with Disney, but not lose the recognition of totally changing the name.

On a side note I am surprised they aren't called the Los Angeles Ducks of Anaheim. ;) Baseball fans know what I am talking about. lol

Yeah they should've at least kept the Mighty what the heck are the ducks? Who is going to cheer for them (no offense!!). They came under new ownership but Disney still owned the name "Mighty Ducks".
