Question: From my height data calculate the number of centimeters in one inch. Show work please

70.5" /179cm = 1"/x

then do the butterfly thing:

70.5x = 179 (1)

Solve for x
x = 179/70.5
x = 2.539 or rounded x = 2.54.

I'm 100% positive that 2.54cm are in one inch.

Let's think this thru logically... Your height will not change in magnitude (that is, you will not grow or shrink just because the value of that magnitude is expressed in this or that system of units).

So your height is the SAME no matter what it's expressed as. A dollar is still a dollar whether I have it as 10 dimes, 100 pennies, or 4 quarters. Let's use that knowledge to fine out how many dimes there are per quarter.

We just said a dollar is a dollar. A dollar equals 10 dimes. a dollar equals 4 quarters. By mathematical logic, if a = c, and a = b, then we conclude b = c because they both equal a.

1 dollar = 10 dimes and 1 dollar = 4 quarters...soooooo....
10 dimes = 4 quarters. So how many dimes are in a quarter, based on this information? Let's figure out, from this equality, the ratio of dimes to quarters.

If 10 dimes = 4 quarters, and we divide both sides by 10, to solve for 1 dime, then

1 dime = 4/10 quarters = 0.4 quarters
Inversely, if If 10 dimes = 4 quarters
then 1 quarter = 10/4 dimes, or 2.5 dimes

I use this overly simple example because you can check it if you wish with your own pocket change...

Take this same logic and apply it to your height.
Your height is 70.5 inches; it is also 179 cm. By the same logic
then 70.5 inches = 179 cm. (If not, you measured your height incorrectly. )

Use the same logic I used with the coins to figure out how many cm = 1 inch.
