I'm a mechanic, a shop owner, and have a drag car, and a truck in which I race on a weekly basis. I know what you mean when it comes to scoops, there aren't that big of a selection. What I would do IF it was me, I would go to the local sheet metal fabrication shop, and get one made. This way you will get what you want, it will fit perfect, and look good too. The benefit would be you have your own design, and not everybody you come in contact with will have one like it. You can even design, and make a way to close it off when it rains. It is easy to find a vacuum chamber, some springs, and you have a system that opens when you slam the peddle to the metal. Most sheet metal shop will welcome the challenge, as they don't get to do these everyday, and you can bet you will get a scoop that you will be happy with.
Glad to help out, Good Luck!!!

Hi If you're after looks only, then place it wherever it looks best to you (but you might want to get a second or third opinion!). Performance wise, the hot air is exhausted out the back of the engine compartment by the fan and the motion of the vehicle so other cooling is usually not needed (except for disk brakes which is another story). The object of a hood scoop then is to direct cooler, more oxygen rich air into the air intake of the engine to yield more horsepower when the car is moving. For performance, it should be directly connected to the air intake (usually with some tyoe of foam gasket so that the hood can be easily opened. Many modern cars, however, utilize an air intake in the air dam on one side or the other of the radiator, creating a similar effect as a hood scoop. Since manufacturers utilize computers now to aid the design of the airflow over the vehicle (and into the engine air intake) it is unlikely that you could improve performance much, if at all, on a newer vehicle (90's and up). So that takes it all back to looks! Hope I have been of some help with your decision!

Pick up the Magazine Truckin...There are plenty of shops that sell metal hoods with scoops. I got mine from the manufacturer Goodmark. Its a GM replacement part and fits like OEM.

To do this correctly a custom rod shop could handle this nicely. Ask around, buy roadster magazines. You could start by coming up with a sketch. Do you want the opening forward or fitted close to the base of windshield where the most air pressure stands off while driving. You may decide to send your hood to a custom shop for this work

good luck, I have never seen any metal scoops for sale anywhere, you will have to have it custom made and welded on your hood.

try a local impound or car parts lot (i.e. junkyard) (in my town there are 2, one is Spalding, the other i forget). they tend to have a lot of stuff, you just find what you want, then maybe do a little restore work, GL
