see,I don't have kids so I lack perspective, is this an issue? should people in California be allowed to spank children under three, is it too early or is it acceptable,I was spanked so don't try to convince me it's wrong, the question is what age.?

I was spanked too, but I would think that it would teach an older child something more than a child under 3. My 2 year old gets a light swat on the butt sometimes, but he thinks it is a game and laughs. If he doesn't understand what it is for, than why do it? Older kids on the other hand, will know what it is for and hopefully learn from it. I am not against spanking, there is a difference between spanking and hitting, even though half the world doesn't seem to think so.

I do believe in freedom but at the same time i do believe in proper upbringing. Spanking kids ( i am not talking about physical abuse) is for their own good. I got spanked for doing silly wrong things when i was a kid. But i was shown love and affection too. When i grew up i understand the precise reason why i got spanked.
Coming to the question of age? That i dont know because it might differ. But the question is of a 3 year old. 3 year old for me is a time when kids ought to be taught discipline and shown love and affection. If spanking goes along with discipline, hey...why not. Its for their own good. Too much pampering will lead to arrogance and ignorance, which will affect in later stages of life.

You should be able to spank your kids until they are 13 because you will get a better response from kids that are spanked rather than making them sit in the corner or giving them a time out. As long as they did something that they weren't allowed to do it should be allowed.

I slapped my daughter (she was about 3) on the thigh in church does that make me a bad mom? No, she needed to understand that this is one place where bad behaviour was not acceptable and by that one slap she learned, but I felt guilty because everybody heard the slap in a moment of silence, the slap echo'ed throughout the church. All attendee's accepted it as discipline of a mother. They knew I wasn't a bad mom, but sometimes the little slap does produce an awakening in the child of what's right or wrong.

The government should not be telling parents how to rais their kids period. There is a big difference between a F'd-up pevert abusing a child and a parent innocently swatting a child in his terrible two's to get his attention. The liberals WILL use this to propagate this perpetual need they have to destroy the bases of what this country us based on....the family
