I had arthroscopic surgery on my knee one week ago for a torn meniscus. I am walking around- as a matter of fact, I actually walked out of the recovery room with no assistance. The area above my knee, (NOT on top of my knee cap) is still very swollen which causes me difficulty with range of motion. I have had 2 days of physical therapy and my knee seems more swollen than usual. Anyone had the same experience? How long did it take to be "normal" again?

I will say first walking on it does nothing but inflamming it more because you are putting weight on the injury that needs time to heal without the weight. You will continue to swell until you give it a chance. I have had this surgery plus I work in Physical Therapy. You should be non weight bearing at least two weeks if not more and then only minimal weight. Two days of therapy is not going to magically make you better. Your knee is more swollen after therapy because it is being overworked. What happens is patients come into therapy thinking that the harder they push themselves the better off they will be and the faster they will recover. NOT true! It actually does more damage than good. Recovery comes with a gradual progression not constant weight and exercise. Everybody's body differs from how they heal. A great deal of people never gain their full range of motion back. I had my surgery in 02 and I still have alot of problems with my knee when walking up stairs, bending, running, and straightening and bending my knee are off from full range of motion by several degress. I had two years of therapy. Hope this helps. Take it easy on the knee and hopefully you start to see some improvement.

It very last's some weeks. i change into advised to ice the first 3-4 days, which truly saved the swelling down. basically allow it heal and do not attempt to hurry it. Welcome to the club! i change into finally circumcised on my 18th birthday and can want to assure you there is no draw back. there is no lack of sensitivity and this is not mutilation, this is basically anti propaganda. Being circumcised is way cleanser (uncut can wash 3x an afternoon and nevertheless have an scent), it really is way more effective healthful (one reason the CDC is popping out in choose of circing all American men), it really is more effective powerful searching (it really is a no-brainer) and it improves sexual function. I have 3 sons (5,2 and 7mo) and had no hesitation what so ever to have them circumcised. i understand there is no draw back, in uncomplicated words a existence of reward. there is no longer something sturdy about being uncut!
