Here's the thing. I've been playing electric guitar for about a year and I was getting ready to get a new one. Had the new one all picked out, then I started to really feel like learning the bass instead. The problem is I've never played bass before and I don't know if I'd necessarily like it more than electric. Now I'm really confused because I don't know if I should go with my original choice or look for a bass instead. I'm kinda limited on cash, so there's no way I could afford both. To give you an idea, most of what I play is metal and punk. So if any of you know how to play both electric and bass, what's your opinion on which one's better? PLEASE HELP ME.

I play both, and my opinion is that bass is better. Not easier to learn, but certainly more fun for me. And, having a guitar background will help you learn the bass that much faster. Do what your heart tells you to...if that fails, do what will get you gigs faster :)

Yeah, if you're a good guitar player and know the roots of the chords you play on the guitar then you should have an easy time with the bass. The frets are wider and the strings are fatter; those are the only two difficult parts about the bass.

A good guitar player should know some bass also.
