The acting was okay, but the lack of plot coherence drove me nuts.

Yes...it was full of contrived, unsubtle political statements (e.g., pro-gun control, pro-immigration) which will make the film seem dated in 10 years ... it was fully lacking in that thing that every great script needs - Truth. (I was similarly unimpressed with last year's 'Crash' for the same reasons.) Plus, in terms of acting, Brad Pitt was much better in 'Seven' and Cate Blanchett was much better in just about every other movie she does. Not to sound overly negative, I DID like the cinematography - it's a good-looking film.

I agree ... I still don't understand how so many AWFUL films get nominated for 'awards' ... because I VOTE with MY Hard Earned Income and that means that I did NOT WASTE MY MONEY on ANY of them! (This includes that "What were they thinking when they nominated" Borat too)

Sad, isn't it when Cars is the Best Picture overall (and the ONLY one I spent money on of all those nominated). (And by the way, I felt that last year's (nominations) winners were also STINKERS in every sense of the word too) The ONLY one I purchased was the Studio Ghibli Offering (Howl's Moving Castle).

In the theatre I was thinking "what the heck!?"
But afterwards, as I was driving my friend home, we looked at each other and started laughing. And then we both confessed that we liked it a lot better looking back, rather than being in the theatre.
So, did it deserve 7 nominations? Why not. They're nominations, not wins.

On the Rotten Tomatoes site it got only a 69% fresh tomato rating. That's not very good for a movie that got 7 Academy Award nominations. You can read the bad reviews here (the ones with the splat symbol):

I for one won't be wasting my time and money on it.
