Old age, just let him know you are there with him by lovingly tapping on the glass, switch the light on and let him see you. No one deserves to die alone since we all came into this world with somebody there. If your really attached to your fish let him lay until he stops breathing and his eyes glaze a bit.

You can freeze him and then plant him in the dirt under a flower for fertilizer instead of the toilet thing.

Here is the thing... Tap water can have chemicals and chlorine that will harm a fish. Using distilled water will help to make a fish healthy but he might be dying I am sorry to say. How long has your betta been alive? Because he might be really old so I don't know still think about the distilled water. Best of luck!

I would say that It is just resting. Do you have any plants in there? My Betta LOVES to rest on my money-wort. But I would not get that if it is your first aquatic plant. Something like Java Fern would do. Just keep the light on for the normal 12 hours a day. Or you can get some fake plants. But only silk plants. There fins are VERY delicate! Mine love to hide in a floating Betta log :) I never thought that It would, but it either sleeps there, or in the plants. Also, are you fasting it for one day? Make sure you are. They need a day without feeding to clear there tummies. I would feed them peas the day before you fast it. They really help clearing the system. you boil them for a few, take the skin off, and cut it up small. They love them!

too much left unknown -- is he eating? you can usually get a betta to eat with frozen foods like bloodworm or daphnia. daphnia is a better bet if he was swimming wobbly before -- it could be swim bladder.

is he puffy looking?

when was the last time you changed the water? how big is the tank/bowl? what do you use to condition the tank/bowl?

is he in a warm spot? if he is in a small bowl you can warm him up by putting him under a light.

i would advise you move him under a lamp and get a bowl of water under the lamp too. go to get frozen food for him. feed him the daphnea or bloodworms and see if he goes for it. put him in the clean water (condition the water of course).

This is just what happened to my baetta..when i saw him on his side..i noticed a huge cut in his side and i never noticed it before..he starts having ceasures trying to get to the top to breathe and then he would fall back down..he died a few hours later and i regret it so0o0o much! before its too late for him..check his skin for any tumors and cuts and if so..hurry to the pet store and find a healer.. just add a few drops and it shouljd heal in a few days...otherwise it seems like your little betta has reached old age... if he starts having seazures like mine...you should and its life asap because it is terrible watching them go thru all that and then dying slowly..i wish you so much luck!!

When you get one from a store they are all different ages. One might be older than another one. I'm sorry to say but your fish is probably dying.

Betas only live 1.5 to 2 years tops. Sorry to hear about your Beta. I had one, named Flame, and he died about a year after I got him. He was doing the same thing yours is doing.
