These are all along Lake Constance (=Bodensee), on the southern border to Austria and Switzerland......
*****Lindau (Bavaria) has an amazing history, it`s BEAUTIFUL, I think its the prettiest city in Germany. The "old city" part is on an island, and all the houses and buildings are historical, really amazing. Very artsy, full of boutiques and cafes of course. The view is on to the Alps of Austria. Perfect.
**Meersburg has a lot of history too, castles etc. Also very pretty.
**Unteruhldingen has a great outdoor museum and has rebuilt houses on ... pillars ? ... in the lake, showing how people lived there during the Stone Age.
**Ravensburg, 1/2 hr. from the lake, is also historical... picturesque old inner city surrounded by a wall, castles etc. too. Very nice for shopping. That`s also where the world-famous "Ravensburger" company is which makes puzzles and games.
As far as the history of these places goes, try wikipedia or something.
Good luck.
