In American Government, the Congress is the branch that is supposed to run the country. But I wonder who really runs it. Congress or the President? If it is the later, what seperates us from any other socialist or totaltalitarian style of government?

The framers of the Constitution set up three branches of government that were to have equal power and check and balance each other. There has been an usurping of power by the Administrative branch since Ronald Reagan. I think the president has too much power now. When one man has so much power it is just what the American Revolution was fought for.

It is all three branches that run the country. Congress can do nothing without the Presidents signature. The supreme court decides if a law or presidential declaration is legal. The president runs the administration

The people run the country through elected politicians. The president and Congress are both supposed to run the country through the checks and balances system.

Hypothetically, the American people are supposed to run the country through our elected officials. But these day's it's run by the Neo con department's of Dewey, Cheatum and Howe.

The country is run by big companies, arms factories, oil companies(specially Unocal) , banks, lobbyists, Illuminati. So is the "biggest Mafia in the world" and voters will never change this if we don´t have a third choice for the people.
