Sometimes money does matter, but at times its respect or isnt it. I got told of my boss far too many times though i built his company to a greater height. I left a huge amount behind and I intend to start my own company a bigger one than the one i was a director in. The only thing i lack now is a few millon punds before i can start off my buisness. Was i right in keeping my respect?

Respect is more important than money. Because, it can't be bought.

Sometimes humble pie isn't too bad. You should've been working on getting your business off the ground BEFORE you quit. You might need those business relationships. Sometimes being hasty is really bad. Looks like you should consider getting another job in the meantime.

I prefer respect and self-satisfaction as well. (As long as I have enough to cover my basic neccessities-not my wants.)
