Hi. I need to send a birthday gift to my best girlfriend. It needs to be light because we live in different countries and shipping costs are nuts. Besides jewelry, does anyone have good ideas? Books are heavy, so not good. She's 27 and pretty stylish, but practical. I want to do something besides the typical earrings and necklace and just need a unique idea. Thanks!!

How about you make a small book out of lightweight paper and include photos of the two of you and some poems or quotes about friendship and how much she means to you. I'm 27 and I would love to get that from my best friend who is also overseas.

If she's in the US I suggest using somethign like Target.com or Oldnavy.com or any other website to purchase somethign online for her. Both those sites will ship for only $5 to the US. That way you can spend less on shipping and more on her gift, and you don't have to worry about the gift being lightweight, you can get whatever you want or know that she'll like.

I think Sticky has the best idea! Or if crochet make her a scarf.. or send her a pic in a nice handmade frame, from a market, or yourself, with beautiful scenery pic from city

I love gettng handmade items from etsy.com Those girls are really sweet and make the most amazing things. They will prolly even ship it to your friend for you.
