Monitor -- Most laptops have a video connector on the back that you can use to send output to a separate monitor.

Keyboard -- If you laptop has USB (as it should, if it was purchased within the past 8 years) then it's simple to connect a USB keyboard, including Apple's. Just plug it in to the USB port. Usually no software driver is needed, although if you get one with fancy features or special keys you may need to load a driver.

There are lots of places to do that. I really like egghead.com if you shop online. If you'd rather go to a local store, any of the office supply chains (Staples, Office Depot, OfficeMax, etc) have decent (not great) equipment at an acceptable price.

Yes - you can generally connect external monitors and keyboards easil yor mist modern laptop. No, you can't generally use an apple keyboard (there are different types of connectors on them so it depends which one you have and also if you have the port to support it - mini din, usb..) You can buy a new kkeyboard for less than $10 so I wouldn't worry about that too much. You can buy monitors and keyboards at number of places. If you are in California I would recomend Frys Electronics (frys.com) - they have everything and then some. You can walk in and pick it out of buy items on the internet. As far as connecting a monitor goes, as long as you have the standard 15 pin port that most all laptops have you can hook up the external monitor. What you need to check out though is if/what keybord sequence you may have to hit to get the monitor working properly. If you look at your laptops keyboard you will likely see some pictures associated to the FN key. Look for little square pictures - those are generally different modes for the monitor. They are critical when switching video outputs. The correlations should be listed in your manual (which, if you don't have you can find online on the vendor site).

Docking stations are really just convienient to pop your computer on allowing for using a second profile in your laptop that will automatically adjust to dock connection or non docked.

Most laptops have a monitor output on the back that you can hookup. So yes you can probably hookup your monitor without a docking station.

Apple hardware is garbage, but if you buy a USB version of their keyboard it should work with a real computer (eg. Intel, Solaris, etc.)
