St. John, USVI is pretty cool, most of the island is a U.S. National Park, great for snorkeling and sailing (pricey to stay there). But as for BEST, it depends on what you like, drinking, SCUBA, jungles, etc (the Central American and Yucatan coast is good for drinking and SCUBA). Key West is another great place (drinking). The close in Bahamas are nice if you want to be near-by and gamble and hang around on nice beaches. I'm going to Antigua my next trip, it has it's good points and bad points, we found a good point. I would look at the Caribbean Port Reviews web page to find what YOU want. It's geared toward cruises, but will give you an accurate idea.

I've been to Puerto Rico and the Bahamas; twice. While both places are beautiful, I enjoyed the Bahamas the most. If you go there try to stay on Paradise Island. It has the most fun resorts and attractions. Grand Bahamas is nice, but you can always just make it a day trip or go there for the night life.
