This is a question of philosophy. Here's how it goes:

You are in hiding with your new born baby and about 15 others whom are all grown men and women. You are hiding from people who are trying to kill you and the others (something like the Holocaust), and the infant begins to cry. You have three seconds to decide on whether or not you will let your childs cry cause all of the hiders to be discovered and shot on the spot, or whether you will place your hand over the childs face a suffocate it.

There are no if/ands/buts. You must chose between those two and you can not alternate the situation. What would you chose and why?

Since its an actual event and did occur We never know how we would act in the same situation and one of the saddest things I have heard about

I would prevent the child from crying as we would all be shot anyway and would live to regret it the rest of my days

I remember this from an ethics class. Although I could not kill my baby myself, no matter what the choice, the baby would die. So I suppose it would be one of those situations where you have to consider exchanging the life of one for the lives of many. I'd probably feel like I wanted to die if my baby did. :(

what kind of a mom would kill her own kid? I'd cover his mouth WITHOUT suffocating him and hey what if they did find us and they shot everyone else...how would the infants life be spared then?

Just like the last episode of MASH! I would probably suffocate it. I can always make another baby.

surely you could silence the child some other way? these utilitarian questions usualy have some sort of back door "out" in them.

I'd kill the kid. I mean hey, it's trying to get me killed.
