X-2:X-men United (2003) can be viewed as a cinematic representation of a post 9/11 American climate through its ideological, political and even philosophical positions. The film starts with an attempted assassination of the President by a mutant. This sets up the mutant as the terrorist threat which is then turned on its head when the audience learns it was in fact William Stryker who set up the failed attempt. This is a direct link to the neo conservatives who believe America needed another catalysing, catastrophic event like Pearl Harbour to serve there own imperial interests. September the 11th tragedy changed both America and it’s President and this is shown in X-2 through the submissive character of the President but also the Unity he has with his Country. The fact that war is first breached by Stryker who when asks is he wants to turn this into a war states “It already is a war.” Is also reminisce of the 9/11 tragedy and George Bush declaring war on Terrorism and in turn Iraq.Guantanamo Bay and it’s involvement in the War on Terror and especially against Saddam Hussein when he was caught is also prominent in X-2 through Magneto and his plastic prison where he is kept in solitary confinement and interrogated often. However due to the controversy surrounding whether or not torture should or shouldn’t be allowed in some extreme cases has also been caught up in X-2. They interrogate him using a humane method of mind control rather than any sort of violence or inhumane way. This is because of the protests raised when members of Taliban and Al Qaeda were shown shackled, blindfolded and forced to kneel which the American public felt to be inhumane.

it's not it's a movie about mutants who are trying to fight for equal rights and to be treated like normal people - X2 was about one man's wish to eliminate all mutants by genocide some how I don't think that 9/11 had any influence on the film
