On one end, you have the phosphate backbone which is covalent connected via amide linkages

On the other end, amine groups are hydrogen bonded to carbonyl groups.

Covalent bonds are the strongest, hydrogen bonds are one of the weakest, thus allowing for occasional unlatching for replication, repair, etc.
