Is it because liberals choose to back the underdogs to feel superior to someone?

WHY else would you WANT someone poor and dependent for life - if not to feel power over them?

OF COURSE NOT RLP

If everyone learned how to fish, Liberals would have no constituency and everyone would vote Republican.

That's why they love treating African-Americans like sheep and have Race Pimps like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton among their faithful.

Yes, tools are better than "entitlements"... tools like education. Liberals support education. Equal education for all. I'll answer your question with a few more questions.

If liberals wanted to feel superior, why would they be pushing for better public education? Wouldn't it stand to reason that by keeping people uninformed, in neo-serfdom, "liberals" would feel far more "superior"?

What do you do for a living? Are you a doctor, farmer, fisherman, carpenter, or construction worker? If you aren't, your job is expendable. Wouldn't you like some sort of social safety net in case you lose your job?

I believe in personal responsibility, but I also believe in the community's responsibility to the person. We're all in this together, and if one truly falls upon hard times, we are called to help that person.

If you believe in welfare reform, health care reform, and/or social security reform, that's fine. Reform is good. If you wish to abolish these programs, that's your belief, but keep in mind you, or your loved ones, may not always be in your current position.

I'm not a liberal. Just wanted to say I agree. Seems like common sense. Lots of people have received welfare and later became self sufficient. If they could do it, why can't the rest? State govts. are more than happy to give people free training, and at the moment, there is a shortage of labor in skilled trades accross the country. It is becoming a real problem in my state in particular. People who receive welfare actually get more support from the state in terms of job training than the average citizen.

Can you be more insulting and passive aggressive with your commentary? Sheesh. Let me tell you something, my mother in-law doesn't feel superior to anyone. But she has worked for the poor and homeless families all her life because her faith in Christ calls her to do such a thing. She is a liberal and so was her husband who was a paster at the UC Congregational church. It's not about giving them something to feel superior to them and it's not about just giving them something as charity and it never was. It is about giving a hand up so they can make it on their own when they are down and out in some capacity. How dare you come along with your smug attitude and judge people that help others. Those who feel superior over others are obviously Republican and the richest 1% of the country which is GWB's base. I'm so sick of your kind of people thinking you are Christian and so moral and good when in fact you are the most arrogant and evil people who take the name of Christ in vein and twist it for your own feelings of superiority, selfishness and greed.
I want to know when the corporations and the wealthiest in our country are going to stop sucking at the teet of government in the form of tax breaks, kickbacks and write offs. Many of the corporations pay no taxes and actually get millions back. Such as The Oil industry, the Military industrial complex, Disney and ATT. why don't you look to those who are making billions off the system and expect OUR tax dollars in return.

Yes. And the #1 tool our youth need in their arsenal is INTEGRITY. Integrity requires that we own our faults and not blame others.

Sadly lacking in politics, and in America today.

And I didn't see any religious reference in your question, Argle may be under conviction.

what makes you believe Liberals do not want to give the tools of survival to people...some of the entitlements you speak of are retirements earned in good faith...some are to people who really really can't work....I'm all for giving tools to people and even attaching a stipulation requiring benchmarks....but when Conservatives cry about entitlements, they are likely to throw the baby out with the bathwater....statement s like this are really just a way to attack the whole welfare system, good things and bad....I agree that people take advantage of the system, but the Republican politicians have not used their position to fix things, they have mainly tried to eliminate funding all together (if they could)

this is typical...

first you say we should give them tools... then you say... they should help themselves...

the truth is always the same with you guys... you want to cut welfare and then give them nothing...

where is any Republicans that wants to give anyone any tools? you say the whole "give a man a fish"... yet do no teaching?

and the rules of welfare currently limit everyone to only 5 years... far from a lifetime...in fact, that's just enough time to go to college... hmmm?

Giving tools to succeed costs more than handing out entitlements. I don't see conservatives volunteering to pay for education and training of the poor; instead you only play the blame game.

You hit the nail on the head. If the people are free from suckling on the government teet, the liberals loose their power. And power is all they care about.
