I have planted a variety around the edges of my pond. I really like grasses, they soften the looks of the rocks. I also have tulips so they come up in the spring, Iris, different types of ground cover, especially sedum that grow around the base of the rocks and some hang over the edges of the pond. Be creative, there is a vast variety of grasses and flowers, pick ones so you will have color all year. Have fun.

If you have big rocks you could put in a couple of big plants. Gunnera is one of my favorites, but likes more water than you may want to give. Some of the phormiums are bold and tough, some are colorful. The japanese iris are pretty. Canna lilies are nice. If you can grow bananas where you live they are pretty bold. You could use ferns and foxgloves. There are a lot of ornamental grasses that have colorful leaves or curly leaves.Look at groundcovers to tie things together. Look in your local library for a water plant book. Have fun!
