I found a book (on my brother's bookcase....hmm) entitled "The Simple Solution to the Rubiks Cube".
I didn't finish it....but the first thing they did was to tell you how to take it apart.

Find the instruction manual and follow the directions. If that doesn't work, take it apart and put it back together correctly. The pieces pull off individually and fit back without any problem. That's what I do. So I cheat, so what.
