avatar is an obvious one, but try flame of recca, its about ninja who can control different elements. it was pretty good. you asked for an anime and the only actual anime mentioned was naruto and flame of recca. avatar is a good cartoon but not anime.

Has anyone said Magical Knights Rayearth yet?
There are some really cool images of them done by CLAMP that each one represents an elements.....there are only 3 I think though.....maybe another character makes up the last one.
CLAMP does a lot with the elements in their anime series.

It's a really good show. The story is absolutely AMAZING. People look down upon it just because it's a cartoon but it's not JUST a cartoon. The characters all have unique personalities and skills and abilities that contribute to their fatal mission. Check it out on Nickelodeon and the site I have contributed below.

Ronin Warriors
The story was kinda bleh...
But the characters were so charged full if energy and they got ill so often it made it worth watching.
Characters
Ryo - fire (Armor of Wild Fire)
Cye - Water Armor (Torrent)
Kento - Earth (Armor of Hard Rock)
Rowen - Heaven (Strata Armor with fold out bow)
Then there's the weird dude...
Sage Date - Lightning (Halo Armor)
The different elementals increases their armor and weapons... but... um... I don't know about the weird dude. Makes me want to watch this anime again.
**edit** And Captain Planet is not an anime =(
