I dont think cell phones should be allowed in the classrooms. The buzzign and or ringing causes a disturbance to the entire class. It also could lead to cheating on a paper. If a student needs to be reached for something important I am sure their school has a number that can be called.

They need to be turned off or kept on silent/vibrate during class. No one should be really be allowed to take out their phone. 'Back in the day', if there was an emergency, the school was contacted and the kid was paged to go to the office. There's no reason to contact the kid directly on their phone when he/she is in class. Cell phones should be kept on before and after school, especially if they are on traveling to or from the school.

Hell no, I pay for my classes and hate when the instructor doesn't kick their *** out of class!! Some of us actually go to school to get an education. Majority don't know what silent or vibrate mean, so I say not just no, but HELL NO!!!!!!

If they're turned off, sure. They don't need to be going off during class.
As many scary situations are happening in schools these days, they need a way to call out in an emergency.

But if its an emergency, then yes..like if their grandfather is dying or something, then they should have cellphones during class

I think because of kidnapings kids should have cell phones BUT I think durring school hours they should be off. THere is no need for people to be trying to contact you while you are in school. Even a parent should know you are in school.

I think that they should have them, but have them on silence or vibrate because it does not disrupte class that much and if an emergency occured, you would want to be notified.
