just wait for the release to come out and buy the disc. The upgrade disc for home basic will only be 100 bucks. The complete disc is for a scratch new computer, like as if you were reinstalling windows and that is 200 bucks. The upgrade will let you keep all your files and it will just change your computer into vista. We only have a few more days, until the masterpiece is on it's way to my cd drive... i mean our.. ok whatever i am syked for it.

If you have the free windows upgrade, then use it and get a free copy of Windows Vista.

Since you're talking about paying 200 for something that just came out, I'll tell you to wait a little while. There are still a lot of driver issues with Vista, and there probably are some software issues with it too. Be happy that you've got your new computer and it will run fine without Vista.

Vista will be a hog on computer requirements and I tell laptop users to consider their graphics processor and their ram. Integrated chip users with a gig of ram will have a hard time making the switch, but if you have more than that, then it should be easy. Vista's requirements are so high that laptops will actually use more energy running the whole Vista thing with all the bells and whistles like Aero, and multiple transparent layers.

Wait it out, prices will go down and software is tested. There will probably be a few patches since the new version will be the target of hackers. You'll be fine running on Windows XP, but if you do decide to switch, make sure your hardware can handle it and you don't need to do it right away.

Vista will be a system hog and buggy as hell. I would wait for awhile before contemplating getting it...don't believe the hype about it being so great.
