I was just wondering my baby is 5 months old and she is about the size of a one year old (20lbs, 281/4inches). Now since she is that big(which the doctor says is fine because she is proportional) shouldn't she be eating the amount of food that a baby that big would eat not the amount of food that a baby her age should eat. I hope you understand my question and thanks in advance.

I would stick with her age requirements, not her size. Babies who are 12 months are allowed to have much more than 5 month olds eat. at 5 months, they are usually still on puree baby foods. as they get older the food requires more chewing and the variety increases. I would contine to feed your baby like a 5 month old, rather than like a 12 month old.

my son is 6 months old, weighs at least 20 lbs. is pretty tall wears 12 mo old clothes.

he eats a bottle every 6 hours, but sometimes he just isnt hungry n schedual. so he eats when hes hungry. i mke a bottle nad he eitehr eats it or he doesnt. either way, its there. twice a day I make a 4 oz bottle w. cereal i(nsteadof the 6 oz bottle) and give him either a jr of gerber 1 foods or a alf jar of ggerber 2 foods.

listen to yur baby. they will let you know whats going on with them. try new things, but keep it on thier age level.

No. Because a 12 mos old is more physically active (most likely walking!) so a 12 mos old burns more calories (needs more food) than a 5 mos old since a 5 mos old is probably not mobile yet.

I understand you question...

I think your baby and or her doctor is the only one that can answer that question...

If you feed her the "recommended" amount and she seems content and she's getting bigger...then she's fine...if she's seems starving ...feed her more.

Just like with adults, we're all different and we can only use recomendations to guide us...not to make the decisions for us.

If your baby seems fine and she's getting good healthy nutritious food in whatever quantity and seems to be flourishing....then unless your pediatrician says otherwise...I think she's fine.

Once she is crawling and walking (and running) she should stop gaining, and maybe even lose a tiny bit. As long as you are feeding her healthy and following the doctor's advise everything seems normal. Some babies just gain faster at first.
