My girlfriend just started taked The Pill, "Yas", we are trying to figure out how soon it will be safe to have unprotected sex. Some places and some doctors say a week, some say a month, planned parenthood online even says right away IF taken within 5 days of peroid. Why such a difference in opinion? What is the chance of getting pregant after a week? But before a month?

It really is best to wait a month, especially if it is a low dose pill. Every woman responds differently to the pill, which is why it is best to wait the month.

You have to take a full months uninterrupted cycle of the pill in order to be protected. For crying out loud put it back in your pants and wait for the thing to take effect. Also be aware that having a stomach virus where you have diarrhea or are throwing up or taking some antibiotics can interfere with the absorption of the pill and nothing is 100% effective where birth control is concerned. Use a condom until the month is up if you really cant wait that long.

For most birth controls, it usually takes about a month to become affective, Yaz is a new pill which i don't trust very much at all, you should tell her to try the regular plain old birth control pill, it works a lot better than most out there, and has been around a lot longer! Don't do anything for a month, relax its not the long away, and completely worth the wait, especially if you don't want a little one!

If she has just started the pill than yes wait a month, after that if she misses one pill than wait a week before having unprotected sex again.

I think if it started just before ovulation (usually about halfway between periods) it may be best to wait a month, or a few weeks at least. Only because it may take a short while for her body to get used to it and in the mean time she's at the prime of the month for baby making.

Otherwise, I would say about a week.
