In art class we have to make a small amulet out of clay. I'm not really sure what to make...I want it to be something fairly simple, but symbolic.

Why not look at some really cool anciet art or pagan art to get ideas? Go to this website and browse through the selections down the left side. A lot of images will come up.

Or, here are some other examples:

Runes:

Etruscan:

(but scroll down)

Greek:

Celtic:

Hawaiian:

And for the language symbols you could use the one that matches the first letter of your own name!

Have fun!

i have a silver amulet i had made custom...it is a dragon in a circle with a piece of moldovite and a crystal hanging from it, in the silver circle around the dragon, inscribed in some font that looks like ancient celtic, are the words "though this world i own, i posess not a thing" and on the other side it says "for i cannot know the unknown if to the known i cling"
very deep and dark saying suited to my mindset at the time, and a good motto to live by and remember.
ofcourse celtic runes are very mystic, too.
