He was doing fine until I got him back to my dorm room from my house and put him into a bigger bowl that had never had another fish in it before. I rinsed it with hot water and filled the bowl with spring water as I had done with my other bettas. The spots aren't Ick, because I've seen ick before. They started out as fuzzy patches and I got some parasite medication to put in the water. They started getting better and then turned into small raised white bumps that looks more like ick, but still not quite what I was used to. The parasite medication I got is Quick Cure made by Aquarium Products and it's supposed to be good for both Ick and other parasites. I've been using it for about a week and what appeared to be getting better has just gotten worse. Any suggestions???

your fish doesn't have ick. good guess, but no. Its a fungus but I dont think that the medicine is going to be enough. I dont know how big the tank it, but I would add salt (1 tablespoon per 5 gallons).
Seondly, if this medication isn't working I would try malachalite green OR methlyne blue together with the salt treatments.

Try to only feed your betta every other day or so also.

I believe the white fuzzy stuff is fungus and it's healing. The small white bump could be the tissues that is dead and flaking off the body of the fish, just like a scab we get when we fall.

What you could do is to change 50% water for your betta once every 3~4 days. You could add some aquarium salt ( any brands will do) about 0.01% or 1g per litre for the first 2 water change.

Betta's are very easy to care for. Clean the tank when you think it looks bad, just keep a little of the water before you clean it and pour that back in so there is some bacteria left for him. In addition, just use tap water with a water conditioner such as Novaqua or Stress Coat and he will be fine as long as your tap water isn't too treated with like chlorine or something. Give me a shout if you need further info on it. Good luck!!

i use quick cure at double dose and it seems to work fine for bettas -- its going to take about a month to get rid of it. i suggest 2 bowls so you can move him daily from one to the other. ich reproduces after it drops off the fish to the bottom -- so you wnat to make sure there is a minimum of funky ich stuff in the bowl. quick cure actually just kills the babies as they hatch and make a run for your betta. try to keep him warm as possible. ich cycles faster in warm water. if you can get it up to 85 the ich should cycle in about a week.

the fuzzy patches sound like columnaris -- for pictures of bettas with diseases check out nippyfish.net.

sounds like columnaris to me, you need anti-bacterial meds.
