Generally yes. But you will probably find there is some wording on the check that precludes it from being cashed. And although it might still be legal to do it, you will find that the banks will have a business rule that they will only honour cheques drawn against an account held by them, if it is done on prescribed stationery.

Many years ago there was a tv programme called AP Herberts Misleading Cases.Basicaly it was a comical look at the law in British courts.One of the cases was about a cheque written on a cow!To cut a long story short it was legal.As Dawleymouse says,as long as all the details are correct it can be written on anything.(Providing the law hasn't changed!)
