Make sure you where a few layers of clothes, those paintballs can leave some nice bruises if you don't.

I agree with the padding. It takes the sting out, and it can lessen the chance of the paintballs breaking on you.
Keep in mind that you'll need to be able to move around quickly and easily, you don't want to overheat, and you're going to get dirty. Any paint with yellow in it is going to stain. Some kinds of cheapy paint that people may bring is messier and more stain-prone than others.
If you just want to cover up the "vitals", I can tell you that you don't want to be hit in the ear, throat, or mouth, or in the shorts area.

Padding think padding! Paint balling can really pack a punch those little buggers sting! There are specially made clothes for paint balling but us normal poor slobs get along with just about anything from sweats to jeans to camoflauge just be sure to be covered up and don't wear anything to thin. Have fun

you might think this is weird but get a cheap rain poncho to go over your layer. The poncho kinda absorbs the force so the paint don't break as easy. NO SPLAT NO HIT.
