But seriuosly. Difficult to answer without know the guy. What would he enjoy using that can be used by both? And how much to you want to spend?
How about XM radio installed in his car, or that piece of home a/v equipment he's been eyeing.
Is he/they coffee snobs? (and I mean that in a non-mean way). Get him that trendy espresso maker.
Does he love music? or the theater? Get them season tickets to the local concert hall/theatre.
Cooking? Enroll them for a class at a chef school.
I like the Maxim idea. You'll know the gift when you see it.

A good barbeque grill and the tools that go with it. That way when he gets hitched, you will have an excuse to go over on week-ends.
