As I understand it, for US flights you must check in at least two hours before departure, i.e., 4a.m. In which case I would get to the airport at midnight, crash out and have a couple of hours sleep in the airport. Saves all the aggravation.............and expense.

Yeah he just neeeds to sleep as long as possible the night before, hang around London till like, midnight then get out to Heathrow in plenty of time for his flight.
If his flight actually TAKES OFF at 6 am he probably needs to be there at about 2 am anyway.
There is no problem in any of this, he is a normal healthy young man and he will sleep better on the plane - it'll help him get over the jet lag.
Personally- being old- I'd book a Hotel at Heathrow, go to sleep at about 8 and get up at 2. The airport hotels are well used to people checking out at weird times. But if he's young, this is a waste of money.

I'm a little confused. If his flight is at 6am and he doesn't have to be out of the hotel until 10am, what's the problem? Unless you mean that his flight is 6am the day after he checks out of the hotel. In that case, can he stay an extra night?

Yes, he could hang around the airport for 8 hours. Check in time would be around 3:30am-4:00am. Boarding time would be about 40 minutes before his flight takes off. No problem with him having a sleep in the waiting area......I said CHECK IN TIME,NOT OUT, as in check in at the airport

I'm with Loti on this one. Assuming we're talking that checkout is 10 am the same day as his flight there is no problem 10 am checkout only means that he has to leave and check out by that time it does not mean he can not check out before then.

He could check out at about 3am as long as he told the hotel staff 24 hours in advance he needed to do so (he could tell them on the phone if need be). The hotel would arrange for one of the night staff to check him out.

Don't be daft - check out time means he must check out by that time not that he is kept a prisoner in the hotel until that time: You say ONE of his flights - has he more than one?

He should get to bed early, get up and leave at Midnight. He has to be at the airport 3 hours early to go through everything. Plus last time I was there, the lines were terribly long!

Tell the reception of the hotel that he is going to Checkout at 2am. Get them to book him a taxi. Problem sorted

Check out time just means he has to be out *by* that time; he can check out any time he wants before that.
