As for me I completely disagree with it. "Spare the rod, Spoil the child." I have a two year old and I will never beat her and I've never spanked her more than once on the bottom and "over" her diaper. When I see a child who over reacts when he does't get something in the store and a parents doesn't do anything about it, it makes me cringe because I can never imagine my child behaving that way. I spank my daughter only when I've told her more than once to stop something and she doesn't listen, which is very rare. And believe me, my daughter is the most well behaved two year old I've ever seen and I've pretty much been told that by everyone. I as a child was spanked and I came out pretty good and I thank my parents for disciplining me in that way because if it wasn't for that then who knows where I might have ended up.

I disagree with it. It is yet another move to get State involved in controlling children, to supercede parenting. Socialists ALWAYS do this, from the Hitler Youth to Mao's Red Guard and Government schools.

When the child says to the parent, "You can't spank me or I'll tell the police," the progressive Socialists/Communists have won. I've been hearing a lot of that lately.

Spanking is a useful tool, when applied properly and rarely, to let the child know who is to be obeyed. It is quite different from 'beatings' that, I believe, do merit outside attention.

I was just on the web reading about this, the main item I was trying to find was if Lieber had children. of course she doesn't. I also wonder if she "hit on a gold mine" so everyone knows her name, of course. I raised 3 children, and yes sometimes I spanked them. It was also in the back of their mind that I would, therefor I didn't need to. In two situations it was a matter of life and death, and do I regret it, no. While these people sit around and think of laws they think we need, we in the real world try to do the best we can I often regret that I don't have a collage degree but at least I can be proud of the fact I am smart enough to know the difference between spanking a child and beating one. It is not the same, child abuse is already against the law maybe I missed the news cast where it doesn't happen anymore. As for "Arnold' stating he never spanked his children, I don't doubt it, when you are never around your children why would you?

The government is trying to end abuse, but this is going to far. When your children can threaten you, and take you to court or jail, just for loving them enough to give them discipline, is ridiculous. In my day I was beaten alot, and I should hate giving spankings to a child, but I don't. I appreciate that at least my mother cared enough to keep me out of trouble, and even if she didn't know proper discipline, she showed her love for her kids in many ways. Alot of times I needed the discipline.
I just try to use proper restraint with my kids, and a spanking is the last resort. The bible says to use the rod of discipline with your kids, if you don't you don't really love them. This may seem harsh to some, but God knows that we all need discipline. Especially today with all the violence in the world, some from youths who have little to know parental guidance.
I give the government relative obedience, but to God, my complete obedience. If he says that discipline will actually save the child from turning into a burden in the future, then I will do what he says.

Well, I disapprove of it. But I can reason with 3 years of age. I wouldn't approve if the government said no spanking period. I would be pissed if they wanted to try and deny us the right to discipline our children.

Government needs to stop sticking its big ugly nose in our private business! My parents spanked me when I was little, and it didn't ruin me!
