I admit that I don't like sarcasm and I cannot understand why so many people here write sarcastic and non-informative answers even to perfectly normal questions. Is it really that necessary to offend someone and/so as to sound superior? Serious answers please. Thank you.

There are a lot of pretty stupid people around. So it realy never surprises me to see their cocky answers. I guess it makes them feel smart.
I do try not to be sarcastic too, but sometimes it is really hard not to give a sarcastic answer to a really silly question. It is just begging for it.
I'd like to think I am pretty mild when I choose to be sarcastic. I never go for the obvious joke either.

Well, I think it comes naturally to a "duh!" kind of question. But you're right- someone probably has a genuine issue they need help with and I get all grumpy on them. I'll try to be more careful in the future!
I generally indicate that I'm being sarcastic with *sarcasm* because people can't tell what your real intentions are in a general response.

It is much easier to give a sarcastic answer than an intellegent answer. Sarcasm often involves little thought while providing an intellegent answer takes some thinking. I heard a quote in the past which I can't remember exactly, but it stated that simple minds use sarcasm, where a person who is real offers depth an insight. Also, as you mentioned, people do try to put others down in order to build themselves up. People lash out in anger or hurt trying to bring others down.

You cannot expect with most of these silly questions to get a real answer, do you? Most of the decent question are rhetorical anyway.

It is a sign of an inarticulate mind. Also it is used as a defense mechanism.
