Save a little more and get a Dell in the $800 range. You will be glad in the long run that you waited until you could purchase a bit higher end unit.

Good luck

My friend, Dell has actially nice and good performance Pc's,
I own 2 Pc's (Dell). You know Pawn Shops? That's a good place to get yourself a good Pc.
The first thing to do is to check is that the Pc is a Pentium 4, the second thing is the proccessr's speed (2.4 Ghz minimun), Hard-drive capacity( 80 GB minimun) ,Memory 250 MB( don't really matter, you can add some more) But most Important is the proccessor's speed. Keep in mind that 2.4 Ghz is the bare minimun you can go.
I got 2 Pc, One is a 2.4 Bought the whole bundle for $225, The other, its proccessor is 3 Ghz, 512 Mb memory , I've added more memory, a DVD burnre so I do anything I want to and I want you to do the same, too. 17 inches analog flat scrren monitor, the whole bundle for $350.
You should never pay what the tag says, you say: I'll give you $
Good luck to you.

I've been buying computers for a long time. I have tried some of the larger retailers like Gateway and Dell (too many trial version software packages pre-installed) but I find more bang for the buck at TigerDirect.com or NewEgg.com. Just make sure you look for Desktop PCs and steer clear of barebones systems and possibly refurbished as well.

You can check Fatwallet.com. Or you can compare the price Best buy, Circuit City, Fry's, Walmart, Dell.
The main thing you need to check is the specification, more higher is more better deal if it is the same price.
Processor Speed = Intel/AMD speed
Memory = how many giga byte
Monitor = LCD how many inch
Harddisk = how many giga byte
Video Card = how many mega byte
Sound Card = how many channel

Please check the spec before decide

Buy a desktop to get the most for your money. The batteries don't last on laptops anyways. HP or Gateway (emachines) are as good as any for a low priced computer and you buy them both on the web and at Best Buy. Dell doesn't have any local store outlets in most states.

Dell Dimensions are standard computers that are good all-around. If you're into gaming or want to watch movies, you'll probably want to upgrade your video card.
